Description

This magnificent medieval castle in Emilia Romagna stands on imposing rocky spurs that dominate the Marecchia valley, offering a breathtaking 360° view of the surrounding landscapes. Built in the 12th century, the castle was initially owned by the church, and then passed into the hands of various noble families, including the Malatesta family. It is said that Gianciotto Malatesta was killed in the dungeons of the fortress, famous for having murdered his wife Francesca and brother Paolo out of jealousy, protagonists of Dante's Inferno episode.

In the 1960s, the property was purchased by a private family who undertook the reconstruction and expansion of the structure, managing it as a commercial business and public establishment. In 2000, a major renovation of the ground floor and first floor was carried out, with a renewal of the furnishings, bringing the building back to its former glory. However, work on the hotel area began but was not completed.

Today, the fortress houses a tourist-accommodation structure on three levels, including a modern restaurant and a hotel with 13 air-conditioned rooms, expandable up to 70. On the upper floor, a large panoramic hall completes the offering. Surrounded by a 1.8-hectare park, the property extends over an area of 3,000 square meters, preserving traces of the ancient fortifications, such as two circular towers, a cistern, and part of the original walls.

In addition to being a tourist attraction of great historical value, the castle is perfectly suited for possible transformation into a conference center, wellness center, or exclusive residence.
