Proserpio is a town in the province of Como, with about 900 inhabitants, lying in a small basin formed by moraine hills. It borders Lake Segrino, a pre-alpine lake fed by underground springs at the foot of Mount Cornizzolo. The ancient pagans had dedicated the lake to the gods, calling it 'Fonte Sacra' (Sacred Spring), from which derived the popular name Sacrino, which later became Segrino. The area is very picturesque because of the mountains in the area and the green water of the lake that dominates the landscape, gathering from the heights in Lake Segrino and then flowing down into the valley that crosses the territory as far as the village of Pusiano.
