Description
Christie's International Real Estate - Milan Exclusive is pleased to offer for sale Villa Besana, an aristocratic mansion of ancient traditions in the Lombard countryside with a historic park with monumental trees in the heart of green Brianza, 40 km north of Milan and 20 km from Lecco and Como.
The villa stands on the ruins of the ancient castle of the feudal lords of Sirtori, whose construction dates back to the 16th century. The complex is located in the town center, not far from the square of the parish church and the Town Hall, on the provincial road connecting Sirtori to Viganò, and consists of the main building used as a private residence, the gatehouse, rural buildings, stables, sheds and refitted barns, and the oratory of Our Lady of the Assumption, located outside the gated complex, on the opposite side of Via Giovanni Besana.
The property, of more than 2,000 sq. m., is spread over more than 15 hectares including woods, gardens and arable land.
The main building underwent a number of transformations over the years, including, in 1890, the addition of the third floor to bring it in line with the main facade. Around the 1920s-30s, part of the buildings toward the entrance was demolished, resulting in an extension of the rustic courtyard to the rear of the main building.
The structure of the park, which opens onto the front of the property, has also remained substantially unchanged in most of its vegetation composition. The vast English garden features a lake with dock created in 1845 that was designed to solve the problem of water collection. The park includes 21 monumental trees, including sycamores, cedars, redwoods, limes, and a 52-m liriodendron tulipifera, one of the tallest trees in Italy.
Complementing the importance of this property is a large swimming pool built in the 1970s.
