Description
In the heart of Città di Castello, on the third floor of the well-known Palazzo Pierleoni overlooking Corso Vittorio Emanuele, luxury apartment for sale. While the main façade runs along the Corso, the rear façade opens onto the palazzo’s condominium courtyard.
The interior of the palazzo is spacious and bright, very versatile and easily adaptable to the most disparate uses while retaining all the elegance and charm of times gone by. The main door opens onto a graceful entrance hall that leads directly to the kitchen and main living room. From the kitchen, which is also equipped with a storage/pantry, one passes into the living room characterized by an imposing size that frames a beautiful 16th-century fireplace.
Connected to the main living room are a bright office space, a bedroom, and a service bathroom accessed via a charming hallway. The sleeping area includes three more bedrooms and a large bathroom. On the upper floor, reached by an internal staircase, is a technical room that is currently used as a laundry room.
With independent access from the condominium courtyard (120 sqm – 1,291 sqft), the apartment also has two exclusive rooms used as a cellar and firewood storage, which are also very useful for sheltering a bicycle with which to move around the alleyways of the historic center.
HISTORY, STATE AND FINISHES
The palace, which already existed in the 14th century, was enlarged in the 16th century and achieved its current elegant and proportionate appearance with the late-18th-century renovation. The façade, result of this imposing work, bears terracotta medallions on the first floor depicting historic figures from antiquity (probably Roman emperors) that wink at the busts sculpted by the Florentine artist Giovanni Battista Foggini and now showcased in the park of the Royal Palace of Caserta.
In the entrance hall, one can still admire the sandstone portals bearing various Latin inscriptions taken from Virgil’s Bucolics. The Pierleoni family coat of arms stands out on the arch leading to the monumental staircase.
Doors and fixtures are all in excellent condition and well-integrated into the stately surroundings, and the owners include in the sale the valuable furniture among which is an imposing six-door wardrobe with drawers in cherry-root wood produced by the renowned Müller carpentry shop.
