Description
This splendid property was originally built as a castle by the
Malaspina family who were powerful in northern Italy in the
Middle Ages. The situation of Malaspina lands, controlling the great
highways connecting the Ligurian and Tuscan ports with north
Italian cities, made the Malaspina rich and powerful.
In 1619 the property was reconfigured for the Malaspina of
Pontebosio to become The "Palazzo del Poderetto," in order to
host the meetings and congresses of the feudal lords and
representatives dignitaries from Rome. This transformed property
remains the bones of the current structure.
Prominent among the people who inhabited this marvellous
mansion over the centuries were the marquises of Podenzana with
their officers and agents, notaries, civil and ecclesiastical notables
of Podenzana and Aulla.
Recently recovered and restored it retains the original architectural
dignity. Many of the original elements, doors, carvings, coats of
arms and details of unique value can still be found inside this
historic mansion.The main entrance to the property is via a few steps or via a
driveway access that leads directly into the connected garage.
The Villa consists of two buildings, totalling more than 600
internal square meters. The first building sees the entrance through
an ancient chapel converted into an atrium with a ground floor
bathroom. The main reception hall has ancient doors leading onto
a sun drenched terrace which overlooks the beautiful garden
(which could if desired accommodate a swimming pool).
The main hall opens onto two additional living and reading areas
with a fireplace, adorned with beautiful floors and original
furniture, and is also connected to the kitchen, which retains the
charm of an antique marble sink and elegant period utensils. The
kitchen is divided into two rooms, the main kitchen and a scullery
in the old tower.
In a separate room we find the original 300's antique stone kitchen
and an additional laundry area.
An internal staircase connects to the upper floor. On this floor are
the 6 charming bedrooms, in which the original floors and many
fine details are still preserved. Two bedrooms have en-suite
bathrooms with bath and shower and there is a separate family
bathroom. In addition the children's bedroom has already been
structured in the floor plan to become a bathroom, if needed. One
of the master bedrooms has high frescoed ceilings and opens onto
a balcony that runs along half of the building.
Adjacent to the main house is the second building, which has two
floors with 10-meter-high ceilings and four immense windows
overlooking the Taverone river and Apennine mountains.
Between the two buildings there is also an entrance for horses.
The outdoor space is an oasis of peace and silence, surrounded by
nature, and alternates between sunny and usable shaded areas.
