Description

- SUMPTUOUS SMALL RENAISSANCE CASTLE BUILT CIRCA 1540 - MANY REFERENCES TO KING FRANCIS I - 100KM FROM PARIS - IMH - 2 HABITABLE HOUSES - LARGE PICARDY FARM YARD - MANY OUTBUILDINGS - TO BE RESTORED. CHATEAU-THIERRY, AISNE, PICARDY. One work mentions that François 1st, 'the king-knight had frequent interviews there with one of the ladies of his kingdom whom he loved the most'. 100km from Paris, in a beautiful preserved valley, this sumptuous little Renaissance castle built around 1540 would have received François I coming to court his mistress; the presence of a salamander, the king's motto “Nutrisco et Extinguo”, numerous symbols and references, notably the arms of France on the main door, suggest that this place was designed in the entourage of royal power. The property consists of one side of the castle, uninhabited for around 150 years, and the other of the U-shaped farm made up of large barns and various accommodations for around 800m2 of floor space on two levels. Two residential houses in fairly good condition, one leased. The facade of the castle presents a great architectural refinement typical of the Renaissance very influenced by Italy, six bays of pilasters with Ionic capitals on the ground floor, Corinthian capitals on the first floor, with acanthus consoles, shields, mascarons , medallions. The main door is a masterpiece of architecture, with a triangular pediment, pilasters, detached columns, bucrana, shell, topped with the arms of Frances held by two women draped in the antique style. Inside, the sumptuous and very powerful straight staircase is decorated with consoles supporting vaults, molded stone ceilings, very original sawtooth moldings. A large room decorated with a sumptuous stone fireplace carved with a central motif of cut leathers, mascarons, Gorgon, strong men (savages?), bunches of fruit (and peppers), according to some historians the motto of Francis I “Nutrisco et Extinguo” (I nourish and I extinguish). Stamped coat of arms. A large semi-circular vaulted kitchen with a guillotine keystone, a large three-span fireplace decorated with the salamander of François I. Walled 18th century window. In the flight of stairs, 16th century graffiti, including one in the name of the owners of the time, another depicting a woman resembling Catherine de Medici. Upstairs, a beautiful bedroom decorated with a fireplace circa 1600, carved with large weapons under a count's crown, monograms painted under crowns, S crossed out symbol of loyalty. A snitch looking into the kitchen. Latrines. A divided room in the 18th century. A Louis XVI fireplace; a 16th century fireplace with a very rare motif of a slave with bound fists embraced by an octopus. A very beautiful pointed vaulted cellar around a central pillar. A large U-shaped farmyard, comprising two habitable 19th century houses (one of which is sold rented), barns and various buildings, with a footprint of approximately 800m2. 3.7 hectares of pastures and woods, free.
