Description
A few years before retirement a Dutch couple started looking for a place in the sun in southern Europe where life would be good for them. This turned out to be a dilapidated historic building in Puglia in southern Italy, an area presenting a magical cocktail of culture, natural beauty, culinary delights and a friendly, welcoming population.
While the wife fell in love with the vaulted ceilings the husband, a renowned architect, got inspired by the possibility to apply his motto “the design of a smaller structure should always match the identity of the bigger whole”. With the assistance of an Italian architect, the couple transformed a derelict historic building into a villa fitting in with the native Pugliese architecture but with a contemporary twist.
This resulted in a very well-designed property, laid-out all on one level with: 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a studio room, a large living room with an integrated kitchen-diner; and easy access to the outside living areas like the front patio and the secluded swimming pool at the back. There is also a roof terrace providing views of the ancient walled city of Oria and its castlelit at nightthat invites you to drink a glass of wine with a view.
For 15 years, throughout all seasons, the couple has enjoyed a great time in this splendid house, they have explored its lovely surroundings, and they have been blessed having such good neighbors and made new friends there. Come and have a look. Enjoy this spectacular place. It may well be your home and your dream come true.
