Description
On the border of Orne and Calvados, 40 minutes from Caen, between Falaise (17 km) and Argentan (11 km), Sotheby's international Realty presents for sale and exclusively, an exceptional place full of history, the Château de Commeaux. Dating from the 2nd quarter of the 16th century (1540/1549), the Château de Commeaux, listed as a historic monument, presents a most remarkable architectural quality, dressed with two wings built at right angles, two circular towers flanked on its northeast and northwest corners, a very slender pyramidal roof and its beautiful "Renaissance" windows and other decorative motifs on the facades. Note that its western tower served as a chapel for a time. History has it that Henri IV lodged here in 1589, probably during the Battle of Gauthiers which pitted the royal troops commanded by the Duke of Montpensier against the peasants. The Château de Commeaux was the home of the Loison family, then succeeded by the Droullin family, then in 1667 by Claude de Vigneral de Ri whose descendants lived in the château until 1819. After a period in the Guerpel family, the estate returned to the Vigneral de Ri family in 1861. Badly damaged in 1944, the château was reborn thanks to Count Jean de Vigneral who restored it. Today, it is the private property of a family. Located to the east of the town, the château is built in the heart of a park of more than 9 ha with a landscaped park, a wooded path and meadows, all crossed by the Houai, a tributary of the Orne. The whole is completed by the presence of a large outbuilding used as a guest house, a tithe barn with very substantial volumes, a caretaker's house and a hangar on the edge of the land. An exceptional place - File and visit on request.
