About the property This unique and spectacular house is built in rammed earth with earth from the excavations, with reinforced concrete and wood roofs. The thermal control of the roof is ensured by a 5 cm layer of water protected by insulating slabs, with a ventilation device designed to increase the evaporation of water during the summer, cooling the water and the house, and during the winter this air box remains closed so that the insulation of the slabs protects from the cold. The house is self-sufficient. It has its own water through a collection hole, electricity from photovoltaic panels, hot water from solar panels, a septic tank for sewage and central heating with a diesel boiler. It also has a cistern for collecting rainwater, for irrigation and eventual reserves. It consists of: - Kitchen, - Dining area, - Living room, (generous areas) - 4 bedrooms, one suite with walk-in closet, one double bedroom and two single bedrooms, - 4 bathrooms, one in the suite, two service bathrooms and one guest bathroom, - 4 parking spaces, - 1 saltwater pool, in the shape of a tank and long enough to allow swimming, - 1 Studio, used by the owners for their artistic practices - Several patios - 1 Porch with terrace, which allows outdoor meals and socializing. The 360ha Montado that surrounds the house, takes us to the silence and the senses that this Alentejo provokes. On nights with clear, starry skies, the magnificence and clarity of the spectacle is unique and overwhelming. Here everything is where it should be. The house is organic and you can feel it on your skin. The place, the rammed earth construction and the program are at the root of the design of this house, whose program was defined in response to the needs and desires of the family, materialized from the beginning in a list of 'wants', not only functional but also the environment of the house itself. Throughout the process of designing the project and its construction, the house had the close collaboration of the owners of the work, an artistic couple, she being a ceramist and he a sculptor and painter. It stands out for its climatic aspects, the protection from the Alentejo heat, creating an environment of thermal inertia, and also for being a traditional technique suitable for a single-storey building.
