Description
XIV°-XVI° MH castle on 16ha park with a forest and pond of 8ha
Location:
The chateau is located in the countryside, not far from a charming village with a restaurant and near Vitré, in the east of the department of Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany.
It is 33 km from Rennes, 9 km from Vitré, 52 km from Laval and 3 hours and 40 minutes by car from Paris (1 hour and 50 minutes by TGV from Vitré station).
Size and architecture:
Classified as a Historic Monument since 1946, the castle has impressive facades with Renaissance sculptures, a 16-hectare park, an 8-hectare lake, moats, convertible outbuildings and a dovecote.
The remains of the 13th century medieval fortress on the west side and the 15th century octagonal tower on the east side are still standing.
The main building was built in the 16th century.
The facades are made of rough stones with horizontal bands of sandstone.
The roof is about 50 years old and is covered with slates from Corrèze.
Interior:
The castle has about 15 rooms spread over about 1200 square meters, on three floors.
The ground and first floor rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, with exposed beams, coats of arms of successive owners, monumental fireplaces and a beautiful oak staircase.
The castle offers a lot of potential for those who want to exploit it, such as holiday accommodation, a restaurant, seminars or events.
However, improvements in heating and bathrooms are urgently needed.
Outbuildings:
The main outbuilding dates from 1904 and served as a house for the guards and staff, with a stable, tack room and granary.
It has approximately 900 square feet of developed space and is in need of restoration.
The outbuildings offer potential for additional accommodation and have a separate entrance if required.
There is also an aviary and a stable.
Ground:
The park covers about 16 hectares and includes an 8 hectare water body that meets the legal requirements for fishing.
The locks have recently been renewed.
Comfort:
Heating: electric, programmable and partly reversible heat pump (not available on the second floor and in the 15th century part).
Electrical wiring was redone 25 years ago with recently revised switchboards.
Sanitary: not up to standard.
