Joshua Spiegel is a third generation Malibu Real Estate investor and resident. His father, Paul Spiegel, was a top broker in Malibu for more than 20 years and was elected President of the Malibu Association of Realtors. His mother and partner, Gail Copley, has been a top agent for more than 25 years. Growing up in Malibu with both parents being elite agents, Josh developed a passion and deep understanding of the Malibu marketplace.
Upon graduating Malibu High School, Josh joined the Marine Corps and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where he earned degrees in Economics and Finance. With the discipline instilled in him during his time in the Marines and the knowledge gained from CU, Josh was able to succeed immediately in the worst real estate depression of the modern era.
Within a year of completing school, Josh had a job with Douglas Emmett, managing more than a million square feet of office space in Brentwood. Soon after that, Josh was offered an opportunity he couldn’t refuse, resort development in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Immediately, Josh was on a plane to Nicaragua where he spent 6 months bouncing around Central America scouting opportunities for an eco-resort.
In late 2007, when the residential housing market collapsed, the financing for hotels dried up as well. Where others experienced difficult times, Josh saw an opportunity in Commercial Real Estate. Spending the next three years making 300 cold calls a week, Josh had tremendous success brokering NNN building sales and leases. During that same time period (2007¬ – 2010), Malibu’s median home value had dropped 40% and the number of licensed realtors had been cut in half. Josh saw his chance to return to Malibu and pursue his passion of selling homes in his boyhood town.
Now partnered with his mother, Gail Copley, Josh has come into his own, becoming one of Malibu’s top agents. Drawing on decades of market knowledge, experience and tutelage, Josh is a sought-after market analyst and contract negotiator. Combining his vigorous discipline with technological acumen, Josh separates himself from the rest of the pack and is able to be a proactive listing agent, as well as a tenacious buyer’s agent.
In his free time, Josh is an avid surfer, fisherman, SCUBA diver and martial artist.
