Description
A native Lexingtonian, Gwen graduated from Transylvania University before leaving home to earn a master’s degree in higher education administration and counseling from the University of South Carolina. She began her professional career in higher education, serving as a college administrator at both the Savannah College of Art and Design and the University of South Carolina. In 1990, Gwen happily returned to Lexington to work at her alma mater as a development director, raising millions of dollars for the university, and later served as an administrator and counselor in the Department of Student Life.
During this time, Gwen also began investing in real estate and discovered a true passion for helping others navigate their own real estate decisions. More than 20 years ago, she made the decision to pursue real estate full time—a move that quickly proved successful. Early in her career, Gwen earned numerous accolades including Rookie of the Year, Million Dollar Club membership, and national recognition from the Quality Service Certified Organization as one of the top agents in the United States. Locally, she was voted one of Lexington’s Favorite Realtors in the Lexington Herald-Leader Readers’ Choice Awards.
While awards are meaningful, Gwen believes her greatest professional accomplishment is the trust she earns from repeat clients who often become lifelong friends. Former clients frequently cite her deep knowledge of the Lexington community, practical advice, honesty, and sense of humor as reasons the buying and selling process feels not only successful, but genuinely enjoyable.
Gwen is Central Kentucky’s biggest cheerleader and has loved raising her family in the Bluegrass. Her husband, Marc Mathews, is a retired Vice President of Business and Finance at Transylvania University and former Treasurer at the University of Kentucky. He now works as a licensed Realtor and serves as her agent associate on the Mathews Team, bringing extensive financial expertise and strategic insight to their clients. Gwen’s son and daughter attended Lexington public schools, pursued college degrees out of state, and ultimately returned to Lexington to establish homes of their own.
An active community leader and volunteer, Gwen enjoys helping clients who are new to Lexington not only find a house, but truly feel at home in the community. Outside of real estate, she is an avid knitter, reader, and traveler, and loves nothing more than hiking the Red River Gorge with her two Labrador retrievers.
