Along the west coast of the Phuket peninsula, along a pitted road
called "Millionaire's Mile," sits the Cape Sol development and Villa Yin,
a property owned by Laurent and Chantal Broda.
The house, completed in 2008 after four years of planning and
construction, reflects a kind of "new Thai" style.
Its streamlined pitched roofs and deep eaves nod to Thai architecture, but
the home, which sprawls over several levels, has none of the
ornamentation found in traditional structures.
Villa Yin has 730 square meters (6,500 square feet) of indoor space and
another 432 square meters (4,650 square feet) of balconies, decking andoutdoor space.
There is an 18-meter (60-feet) infinity pool lined with gray marble.
The villa stands in a lush tropical garden, with the landscaping heavily
reworked to introduce traveler's palms, frangipani trees and tropical
flowers but to retain the hillside slope, ensuring all the main rooms have
unobstructed views of the sea.
Yet it is the interior that instantly catches the eye. [...]
The house is filled with antique Buddhas, Tang Dynasty terra cotta
figurines, a huge Phuket-style bronze gong, nine Andy Warhol prints of
Marilyn Monroe and scores of works by some of China's best-known
contemporary artists.
