Summary of both farms:
The number of cacao trees planted to date is approximately 100,000 units (for almost 100 hectares planted with cacao being the largest cacao farm in Costa Rica).
Each farm has been planted strategically, in each of its lots, this according to production needs, soil analysis and according to the best variety clones applicable in each area. Hence the diversity that some lots have been sown for 11 years and other lots only have 1 year of sowing. There are still approximately 25 hectares to be planted.
It is important to emphasize that the level of Cadmium is less than 0.20 mg / kg in all the lots of both farms, giving great prestige to cacao, not only for the quality it has, but because this level of heavy metal is extremely low and approved by the European Union.
The clones planted on the farms are of high quality in their flavors (demonstrated in several international competitions with different awards), with very high production levels and with protection against diseases such as monilia among others.
Each lot has a traceability of which clones have been sown, the quantities and the respective sowing dates, being the only farm in the country with this traceability system. In the same way, some lots have fertigation if necessary, an exclusive irrigation system and not applied in other farms in the country.
Each farm has a wood-fired cacao bean dryer, which is used in case of low sun level to dry the cacao beans.
The level of dry cacao production, estimated for this year, is around 40 MT and 55 MT by 2022, and thus consequently according to the aging of the trees that are producing until reaching 200 MT in 2030.
The estimated income, between cacao and other by-products (such as rods, pods and others), in 2021 they will be around US $ 350,000 until reaching US $ 765,000 annually in 2030, keeping their fixed production costs of around US $ 245,000. Depending on the management of the plantations, in terms of the management of pruning and stronger fertilizations, the production levels could increase, but that will depend on the cash flow. The cost level would remain stable even with more production volume.
