Large indoor food markets, a sort of food shopping center, are dotted around cities worldwide. The Markthal Rotterdam is set to open in October 2014, and this new privileged food experience is anything but ordinary.
The innovative horse-shoe structure is almost the size of a football pitch, which rises in an arch shape in Binnenrotte. The enticing structure and the inviting services and facilities are sure to make up the ingredients for an unforgettable foodie experience.
The ground floor and first floor shall offer a vast food market filled with an array of fresh products to choose from. In addition, there will be an area dedicated to restaurants and a cooking school. The upper floors, 10 to be more precise, will occupy differing sized apartments, both for sale and for rent. There will be a total of 228 apartments varying from 82 to 300 square meters, with three, four, and five bedrooms. Half of which look out onto the market, the other half enjoy beautiful views of Rotterdam, the river Meuse and Laurenskerk. Furthermore, 24 penthouses are found at the top of the distinctive horse-shoe structure. Naturally, an underground parking lot with the capacity to hold around 1,200 cars completes the one of a kind building.
Without a doubt, the heart of the project is in the market, which will provide space for at least sixty businesses of differing culinary specialties. The Markthal will compete with renowned markets in other European cities, self-distinguished by the innovation of being the full package, offering the possibility to purchase a high-end apartment in the Netherlands.
