Description
As a real estate agent, the most frequent compliment Mark Watson receives from clients is, “you really listened to me.” He attributes this in part to his hundreds of hours studying with Patsy Rodenburg, one of the world’s preeminent voice coaches for classical actors, business executives, and professional speakers. One of her fundamental teaching principles is staying present and connected to a person, group, or audience. He is an accredited Registered Rodenburg Teacher and Patsy Rodenburg Associate.
Born in Detroit, he set off to study at the University of Michigan at 16 and moved to New York at 20 where he began his theater career. At 23, he accepted a full scholarship to the prestigious American Opera Center training program at The Julliard School, went on to win prizes in international vocal competitions, performed all over the world, and in 2016 was presented as Artist of the Year at the Max Fisher Music Center in Detroit. In New York City, he has appeared at Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and Carnegie Hall.
He is a board-certified music therapist and created interactive lectures on how music affects the brain, the body, and emotions. He enjoys aiding charitable causes. He founded Hearts Across the Ocean (Kids Saving Kids) a 501C3 charity that underwrote life-saving heart operations for impoverished children in India and is an authorized meditation instructor of the Integrated Amrita Meditation (IAM) techniques. He is on the board of Encompass New Opera Theater, a company dedicated to the creation, development, and production of new music theater and contemporary opera. Every year, Encompass gives lifetime achievement awards to giants in the theater industry. He is also on the advisory board of Opera Index, an organization dedicated to identifying and supporting extraordinary opera singers. Recently, they awarded over $75,000 to gifted young artists. He is a regular guest teacher at an international opera training program in Greve, Italy.
Mark has worked as an opera director and frequently writes for Classical Singer Magazine. He was the assistant to world famous composer and director, Gian Carlo Menotti at the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. He holds dual citizenship in Canada and the United States.
Each client has a unique set of concerns or priorities such as space, location, price, time frame, resale value, view, convenience of transportation or shopping, etc. Mark thinks of his primary role at Sotheby’s International Realty is as a collaborator and partner with his clients, helping them balance and understand the different options available.
