I was fortunate to be born into the New Smyrna Beach community many years ago. And as I grew, so did my town. A surf board and the inlet became very much a part of the person I am today. Surfing and the New Smyrna Beach community defined my hopes, my dreams and my life. Since I was a young man, my day started by experiencing the surf and waves at the beach. It was so exciting to watch New Smyrna Beach grow and become the rich and vital community it is today. There simply is nothing which compares to the beauty of our water fronts, and beaches as the sun rises, and the sun sets. National Geographic named New Smyrna Beach one of the top 20 surfing destinations in the world. Locals like myself have always thought there was something magical here that can only be experienced by becoming one of us. Eventually my dreams did come true as I became the 2 time East Coast and US Surfing Champion. In 2000 I was inducted into the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame. My two daughters, Lindsey and Marcie, carried on the tradition by also becoming East Coast and US Champions. CB surfboards has been in business for over 30 years, and we continue to make custom surf boards today which are sold in the new "Rip Curl" surf shop formally "Inlet Charley's". The NSB community loves to brag about our enchanting historic district, Flagler Avenue. Flagler Avenue is quaint and welcoming. It has that unique small town feel about it. We have loads of shops, and cafes, and a thriving art community. Flagler was also home to "Inlet Charley's Surf Shop" for over 25 years. There is something to do in New Smyrna for everyone, especially on Flagler Avenue. From art and seafood festivals, to street and block parties, we offer something to all ages. Live music, great food, good people, and good times are always available on Flagler Avenue. There is never an end to the fun or the many exciting "things to do". We truly have something for everyone, including, our new Surf Museum for all of those surf history enthusiasts.
I've been fortunate to travel the world as a professional surfer, and no matter where surfing took me, I've always been drawn back to my charming little hometown.
